Edward Hinshaw is the senior and managing partner of Hinshaw, Marsh, Still & Hinshaw.  He has been representing health care professionals for over forty years.  Starting in 1966, his practice has been dedicated to the representation physicians as well as Stanford Hospital, O’Connor Hospital, San Jose Hospital, Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and El Camino Hospital in professional negligence cases.  In 1970, Mr. Hinshaw was approached by the Santa Clara County Medical Association and its members insured by American Mutual Liability Insurance Company to undertake representation of physicians in Santa Clara County. In 1975, Mr. Hinshaw spent time in Sacramento on behalf of physicians in the development of the MICRA legislation.  Thereafter, he actively participated and helped create two physician owned insurance companies.  

Mr. Hinshaw has represented health care providers in more than one hundred jury trials.  The current focus of his practice is representing physicians before the Medical Board of California and in hospital-medical staff matters.  

Mr. Hinshaw has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1985, and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 1986.  He is frequently asked to lecture on medical-legal issues.  Throughout his career, he has served as a consultant to the California Medical Association and has provided legal advice to numerous health entities.  In 2006, he was awarded the Citizen’s Award by the Santa Clara County Medical Association in recognition of his significant contributions in the health field.

Mr. Hinshaw received his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1963.  He received his undergraduate degree from the College of Pacific (now University of Pacific) in 1959, and, thereafter, served in the United States Army.  He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1964.  He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of California.  

Mr. Hinshaw has been married to his wife Barbara for more than fifty years. Together they share four children and ten grandchildren.  Daughter Jennifer Still and son Brad Hinshaw are members of the law firm.  Mr. Hinshaw was a competitive swimmer and water polo player in college.  For several decades, he continued his competitive athletic pursuits in the sports of swimming, running, bicycling and triathlon.  He has held numerous master’s world swim records and is a three time Top 5 age-group finisher in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.  Mr. Hinshaw enjoys golfing, vacationing in Hawaii, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
